Bethlehem’s NHS Chapter Wins Awards at Annual Meeting |
The election of Madelynn Ringo as state secretary and recognition as winner of the Outstanding Service Project award were among the highlights of the Kentucky Association of National Honor Societies annual meeting Feb. 22 – 23 in Louisville.
Bethlehem High School’s delegation numbered 24, including Megan Doyle, the state secretary for 2006-07, and Austin Carey, president of the Bethlehem chapter of the National Honor Society.
Other convention highlights include individual awards for several students. Maddy Watts wowed the crowd at the talent show with her performance of “Unchained Melody” while Madelynn Ringo achieved recognition with a first place award in the art competition. Ryan Robey took third place in the speech contest. Austin Carey was a finalist in the Outstanding Student competition.
The chapter also received a third place award in the Outstanding Chapter competition and was recognized at the Thursday evening banquet for the chapter with the most participation in the statewide service project to collect donations and toys for Jarrett’s Joy Cart. The Joy Cart was initiated by Jarrett Mynear and his mom to provide toys for hospitalized children. Jarrett’s mom Jennifer Mynear was a special guest at the banquet.
The event’s motivational speaker was Kevin Harned of WAVE-3 TV. Harned, a Bethlehem graduate, shared with the students how his mentor, John Belski, helped him to realize his dream of becoming a meteorologist by counseling him about his educational path and encouraging him to perfect his broadcasting techniques. After graduation from Purdue University, Harned went to work with his mentor at the Louisville television station.
The group was accompanied by their sponsors, Jan Ballard and Marlona Ice.
