For Freshmen

Beginning high school is an exciting time, but it can also be challenging and stressful. There are many people at Bethlehem to help ease you into this transition between middle school and high school--we want you to be successful and have fun! The following is a monthly list of activities and suggestions to help make your first year of high school a little easier.

 

Freshmen Year Planning Calendar

 

August – September

  • Freshmen Orientation - before school starts
  • Welcome Supper for freshmen and seniors - second week of school 
  • Students struggling in a course should meet with their teacher or Ms. Livers, Dean of Academics for help in developing effective study strategies
  • Consider starting a 529 plan which is tax-free for college savings
  • Ms. Koontz, College & Career Counselor will discuss with students calculating their Grade Point Average (GPA), class ranking, and Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES)
  • Students should begin the year with a concentrated effort on managing their time efficiently and developing effective study habits

October - November

  • Students should review grades by using PowerSchool
  • Students should reassess their study habits and work to improve their skills
  • Students should apply to Governor's School for Entrepreneurs
  • Pre-ACT 8/9
  • Parent / Teacher Conferences & Grade Level Meetings

 December

  • Students should be preparing for semester exams 
  • Ms. Livers will visit classrooms and speak to students individually to review the results of the Pre-ACT 8/9

  January

  • Students should focus on their second-semester courses and improving study skills if needed
  • List colleges that might interest you and discuss with the counselor

 February - March

  • Ms. Livers will visit classrooms to begin pre-registration of classes for next year
  • Students should review course booklet before selecting classes and discuss with parents and Dean of Academics
  • Students will begin putting together their resume

 April - May

  • Students struggling in a course should meet with their teacher and/or see Ms. Livers, Dean of Academics for help in developing effective study strategies
  • Students should be preparing for semester exams
June - August
  • Students should consider working and performing community service
  • Students should review National Honor Society and Governor Scholars Program requirements for applying for admission during the junior year
  • Students should be sure to complete their summer reading and assignments
