Service Learning

Campus Ministry: Service

Bethlehem High School considers service learning essential to fulfilling the school's mission to be Christ-Centered. In keeping this mission, we provide opportunities for students to serve Christ by serving others. Our service learning curriculum is implemented on three levels:

School Wide Service
In conjunction with the Student Council, a school-wide project is adopted for the year, and students have the opportunity to partipate in activities to support our service partnership. Past partnerships have involved helping to raise funds to build a girls' school in Bukoba, Tanzania, giving Christmas gifts to local long-term care residents, and supporting pediatric cancer research and the work of Catholic Charities.

  Grade Level Service
Students are required to select, plan, implement and reflect on a service learning project in each of their four years at Bethlehem. The completion of the project will be assessed through religion class. The project requirements will increase in accountability, leadership and involvement from grade to grade. Seniors will showcase their project at a service fair in the spring.

Individual Service
The Coordinator of Campus Ministry publicizes opportunities for students to provide service to the school and community. Students are invited to keep a record of the time they spent in service learning and attach a written year-end reflective writing. Students may be recognized with either the Gold or Blue Star Award for their commitment to service.
