Emphasis is on developing the skill of using a "touch" system for entering data on the keyboard. Basic word processing and concepts such as storage devices, making backups, research papers, letters, mail merge, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint will be covered along with basic concepts such as saving to the server, using the Internet and the Home Access System.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II

Prerequisite: Computer Applications I or consent of Instructor
This course studies word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications in depth. The course assumes the student has a basic understanding of these applications and uses the two-hand touch method of keyboarding efficiently. The course will also study desktop publishing, the Internet, graphic software, and multimedia presentations.

WEB PAGE DESIGN

Grades 11, 12
Prerequisite: Algebra I
This course will cover the Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML). As a culminating project, each studnet will develop his or her own webpage to be published on Bethlehem's website.

DESKTOP PUBLISHING

Grades: 11, 12
Emphasis will be on the PageMaker program for publication purposes. Students will be introduced to scanners, graphic software and the digital camera. Students will learn basic techniques in publishing documents, such as business cards, letterheads, brochures, and newsletters. Students will also learn basic filming techniques using camcorders and other technologies. They will also use editing software and the closed-circuit televison system to poduce a television program on Bethlehem activities and issues of interest to Bethlehem students.

PERSONAL FINANCE

This course encompasses the skills necessary to enter the job market such as career search, job applications, letters of application, resumes, and interviews. In addition, the student will study personal financial skills that are necessary to function effectively in the world. The following topics will be covered: banking records, tax forms, insurance, payroll, investing, budgeting and credit.

ACCOUNTING I

The basic principles of accounting are covered with emphasis on the "why" of accounting theory and procedures. It provides a preparation for the daily recording of financial activities of a small or medium-size office and teaches the student to interpret financial statements. Completion of a simulated business for a partnership is required.

TECHNOLOGY LAB

Grades: 11,12
Prerequisite: Desktop Publishing, Web Page Design, Computer Applications II, Computer Graphic Arts or approval of instructor The student should come into this course with a basic knowledge of all programs used at Bethlehem and be ready to put their skills to use. This course provides the student with the opportunity to teach, train and help students and teachers with technology.
