Mathematics
ALGEBRA I
1 Credit
Grades: 9
This course meets the needs of those pursuing higher mathematics courses. Students will develop skills in algebraic methods and related fields. Students are challenged by word problems with real-world applications.
ALGEBRA 1 (Part 1)
1 Credit
Grade: 9
This course is designed to help students develop skills in math and related courses. Students will apply concepts and abilities of arithmetic and algebra knowledge and skills to a variety of purposes. The student will need to complete Algebra 1 Part 2 to satisfy the Algebra I graduation requirement.
ALGEBRA I (PART 2)
1 Credit
Grade: 10
This course is taken after completing Algebra I Part 1. Completing the two courses satisfies the Algebra I graduation requirement. The course moves into higher algebraic operations and uses. This includes word problems with real-world applications.
ALGEBRA II
1 Credit
Grades: 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Algebra I
This course is designed for the college-bound student. The use of abstract thinking skills and the algebraic solution of problems in various content areas will be stressed. All topics will stress critical thinking and real-life applications.
GEOMETRY
1 Credit
Grades: 9,10,11
Prerequisite: Algebra I
This course is designed to teach students reasoning and modeling with strategies in solving real-world problems. Students wil apply concepts and abilities of arithmetic and algebra knowledge and skills to a variety of purposes, including reasoning, analysis, applying concepts, spatial perception, and synthesis. These skills and concepts will strengthen the students' aptitudes towards higher mathematical abilities.
PRECALCULUS
1 Credit
Grades: 11,12
Prerequisite: Algebra II and Geometry
This course is intended for students who plan to take a regular calculus course. It includes the topics of Trigonometry and Analytic Geometry and integrates additional work with other functions including exponential and logarithmic functions. Use of a graphing calculator is required.
COLLEGE LEVEL ALGEBRA
(Math 106)
1/2 Credit - 1st Semester
(3 college hours)
Grade: 12
Prerequisite: Algebra II and Geometry
This is a college course offered through St. Catharine College. Properties of real numbers, equations, inequalities, and functions are covered. Also included are topics of exponential and logarithmic functions and their graphs.
COLLEGE LEVEL TRIGONOMETRY
(Math 107)
1/2 Credit - 2nd Semester
(6 college hours)
Grades: 12
Prerequisite: Algebra II and Geometry
This is a college course offered through St. Catharine College. Included are topics of trigonometric identities, laws of sines and cosines, vectors, complex numbers, conic sections, and polar coordinates.
STATISTICS
1 Credit
Grades: 11,12
Prerequisite: Completion of Algebra II and Geometry; a TI-83 or higher graphing calculator is required
This course aims to strengthen and broaden analytical skills of students. It is an activity-based course which introduces students to the fundamental concepts and techniques when working with data. The course exposes students to four broad conceptual themes: exploratory analysis, planning a study, modeling using probability and simulation, and testing hypotheses using statistical inference.
AP CALCULUS AB
1 Credit
Grades: 12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Pre-Calculus or Advanced Math or College Algebra/Trigonometry and/or prior teacher's recommendation.
This course is an intense study in the calculus of functions of a single variable. Theory and applications of limits, differentiation and integration will be discussed. Assignments and test materials will include problems from past AP Calculus AB examinations. Students will be given the opportunity to take the College Board's Advanced Placement Calculus AB exam in May.
