Our Mission Statement:

Bethlehem High School is a Christ-centered, college preparatory, co-educational high school that challenges students to develop spiritually, academically, socially, and morally in the Catholic tradition.
School Scenes
We believe that the formative years are a critically important time for young people to discover a love for life-long learning, to discover and appreciate their own talents, and to celebrate the talents of their peers, but most of all, to discover that each one of us was created by God for a unique purpose. At Bethlehem High School, we provide opportunities for this revelation, not only through traditional classroom experiences, but also through retreats, service projects, extracurricular clubs and team sports. Bethlehem High School truly is a place where young people can discover their full potential.

TOM HAMILTON GREETS STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF AS NEW PRINCIPAL

“I am absolutely thrilled with this opportunity,” Tom Hamilton told the students, faculty and staff Wednesday afternoon at an assembly in the gym when he was introduced as the new principal.

School Board chairperson Bridgett Wilson introduced Hamilton to the gathering, providing some biographical information. Hamilton is a native of Bardstown, attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Bardstown High School. He graduated from the eighth grade after St. Joe Prep had closed but before Bethlehem began enrolling boys. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Northern Kentucky University, and has received his degree in administration from the University of Louisville.

He has 22 years of experience as a high school administrator, first as assistant principal at Washington County High School and as principal at Bardstown High School. He is currently an associate superintendent for the Bardstown Independent School District.

Hamilton shared that three weeks ago, the possibility of becoming Bethlehem’s principal was “not on my radar.”

He compared the idea of becoming principal to an ember, but added that, in the last three weeks, that ember has grown into a burning desire.

He promised the students, “You will get to know me. I’m a very hard worker and I’ll work very hard for you.” He added that he will be very visible, and that, when he greets a student, he wants the student to return that greeting.

He also told the students that his style is “really about kids. I’m really about students, and I’m going to be about Bethlehem.”

His expectations for the students are much like those he has for himself. He asked the students to work hard, be active in extra-curriculars and in sports, wear their uniforms with pride, and do their best.

Student Council president Ginny Martin presented Hamilton with a Bethlehem t-shirt, sweatshirt and cap to welcome him to the school.

Interim Principal Chris Walsh concluded the assembly with a short prayer, after which faculty and staff were invited to meet with Hamilton in the Sister Mary Rachel Rooks Library.

Hamilton told faculty and staff that he will be working on making the transition to Bethlehem, but still must fulfill his contract with Bardstown city schools. His first official day at Bethlehem will be July 1.

NO PASS/NO DRIVE LAW IMPLEMENTED

This information comes from the Kentucky Department of Education website:

Parents, better warn your teen drivers now. The "No Pass/No Drive" law has been reinstituted. Schools will start reporting appropriate data to implement it starting August 1, 2007.

The law is intended to support dropout prevention and to provide an incentive for students to stay in school and pass their courses. The "No Pass/No Drive" statute results in the denial or revocation of a student's driver's license for academic deficiency or dropping out of school as a result of excessive or unexcused absences.

Academic deficiency is defined as a student who does not have passing grades in at least four courses, or the equivalent of four courses, in the preceding semester.

A student is deemed to have dropped out of school when he/she has nine or more unexcused absences or tardies in the preceding semester. Any absences due to suspension shall be unexcused absences.

You will want to talk with your student so he or she knows that, to continue driving or pursue getting a driver's license in the future, grades and attendance (including tardies) must be within the acceptable state guidelines as stated above.

NOTE: Before taking the Driver's Permit test, the student must obtain from the school a "School Compliance Verfication for Driver Licensing" form. Please notify the school two days in advance when needing this form.
