Bethlehem High School is hosting a school business day for parents on Tuesday August 3 from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. On the day before classes begin, the administrative, counseling, and office staff will be here to take care of any paperwork, tuition payments, or answer any questions parents may have.

HAS BEEN CANCELLED!

The Alumni Golf Scramble scheduled for August 7 has been cancelled. All other events will be held.

ATTENTION ALL NEW BETHLEHEM STUDENTS

Orientation for all incoming Bethlehem High School students will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 1:30-7:00. Registration will begin at 1:00. At 5:45, we will host a meal for the incoming students and their parents. A Parent Meeting will follow the meal.

During the afternoon, students will attend a prayer service, go on a scavenger hunt, and play ice-breaker games. Students will also receive their locker assignments and have a walk-through of their schedule.

Q What are Advanced Placement courses?
A Advanced Placement courses are college level courses governed by the College Board, the same company that administers SAT testing. AP teachers are trained and must have their course outline approved by the College Board for their courses to be considered AP. Students who sign up for the courses are required to take the AP Exam at the end. A passing score may result in college credit.


Q Why should I take take AP courses?
A
  • Advanced Placement courses are considered to be our most rigorous courses. The courses are embedded with college level content and skills that will prepare students for future academic work.
  • A passing score may result in college credit.
  • The courses are taught by experienced, trained teachers.
  • A passing score is a mark of distinction that can be highlighted on college and scholarship applications.


Q Which AP courses does Bethlehem offer?
A For juniors, AP U.S. History and AP Composition and Language.
    For seniors, AP Literature and Language, AP Biology, and AP Calculus.

Q What is the cost of an AP Course?
A The only additional cost of taking the course is the cost of the AP exam. This year the exam is $86.

Q What is the difference between AP and Dual Credit courses?
A Both types of courses offer students a chance to earn college credit.

AP DUAL CREDIT
Cost is approximately $86 to take exam Around $125 per semester paid at beginning
If a student scores a 3, 4, or 5 on the exam, over 2,500 colleges and universities will award college credit Credit will be awarded by St. Catharine College for successful completion of the course which may possibly be transferred to other colleges
AP courses are worth 5 quality points toward class rank Dual Credit courses are worth 4 points toward class rank


Q How are students selected for AP enrollment?
A Departments recommend students based on previous coursework, attendance records, and standardized test scores.
