Student Services: LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER
The mission of the Sister Mary Rachel Rooks Library Media Center is to teach students to be effective users of information and to encourage and prepare students to be independent life-long learners. This mission is accomplished by
Providing instruction in information literacy/library/research skills; Providing intellectual and physical access to informational material in a variety of formats and media;
Stimulating interest in reading and in finding and using effectively information and ideas;
Supporting the school’s curriculum and organizing reading initiatives; and
Promoting the use of the media center by students and faculty.
The Library/Media Center is an enjoyable place where students can relax, read, and conduct reference researches and projects for information in a friendly environment. The library encourages reading and learning, the correct use of technology and ethical behavior, and the importance of life-long learning. Students may come to the library throughout the day, either with a class or with a pass.
The Conference Room is for meetings and houses the educational professional library.
The Main Library Room has 6 desktop Macintosh computers and a LaserJet printer, all Wi-Fi accessible. This room also has a 62” wall TV for presentations and other uses and 30 iPads. These are available for use in the library or in the teacher’s classroom.
The Library Meeting Room has 28 laptops, 10 MacBook laptops, a color printer and a 70“ wall TV plus the daily show studio.
Nelson County Public Library Bethlehem students are provided with a NCPL Library Card and encouraged to take advantage of the resources, both physical and on-line available through the library.
KYVL Kentucky Virtual Library KYVL offers a variety of research resources. An ID and password are needed for home use. All students have access to KYVL through their Nelson County Public Library card.
Ebsco Large database of magazines, newspapers, journals, Novelist, and Student Research Center
(OWL) The Online Writing Lab at Purdue University houses writing resources and instructional material, provided as a free service of the Writing Lab at Purdue. Students, members of the community, and users worldwide will find information to assist with many writing projects. The OWL assists with writing, research and citation resources
