Student Life: Drama
Theater Arts at Bethlehem High School is more than just acting. Students are given opportunities to participate in every facet of the art form, from performance to stagecraft. Equal attention is paid to both straight plays and musicals, with fully staged productions in both the fall and spring. Classes in acting and play production are also offered. Bethlehem High School is affiliated with the International Thespian Society. Students are given the opportunity to attend professional performances at Actors Theatre of Louisville and The Kentucky Center for the Arts. Students are also given the opportunity to travel to New York City to experience theater on Broadway. Locally, students have travelled to Louisville to see productions of Wicked, Oklahoma, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. New York offerings have included Memphis, Anything Goes, Sister Act, Jesus Christ Superstar, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Bethlehem's
Theater Arts program allows students to discover new talents as well as refine their craft.
A comedy, mystery, or drama is selected. Past productions have included The Diary of Anne Frank, You Can't Take it With You, Dracula, and The Matchmaker. This production usually consists of a small cast and provides opportunities for students to act, design, or participate on a technical crew.
A classic American musical is selected. Past productions include Godspell, Little Women, The Sound of Music, Bye Bye Birdie, Cinderella and pictured above, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. The cast of this show is larger but still provides ample opportunities to act, sing, dance, design, or participate on a technical crew.
